with the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts.
The Distance Learning Program provides MarcoPolo training to remote
users via video conferencing, Web conferencing and online courses.
EconEdLink is MarcoPolo's economics Partner site, produced by the
National Council on Economic Education.
EDSITEment is MarcoPolo's humanities Partner site, produced by the
National Endowment for the Humanities.
Educator is the broad term that includes Field Trainers, development
staff, school technology coordinators, administrators and teachers.
Field Trainers are attendees of train-the-trainer sessions who conduct
second generation training, or roll out training, to colleagues in schools
and/or school districts in their state. Field Trainers may train educators on
MarcoPolo integration strategies using MarcoPolo resources. Field Trainers are not compensated by the Foundation.
A Field Training is a training conducted by a MarcoPolo Field Trainer.
Field Trainers are required to track Field Trainigns they conduct in the Verizon Foundation’s Rusticello system.
Field Trainer Recognition Program is a MarcoPolo program that formally recognizes outstanding Field Trainers.
Illuminations is MarcoPolo's mathematics Partner site, produced by The
National Council of Teachers of Mathematics.
International Reading Association works in partnership with The National
Council of Teachers of English to produce ReadWriteThink.
John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts or The Kennedy Center
produces ARTSEDGE.
MarcoPolo lesson plans, housed on the Content Partner Web sites, are
based on national education standards.
Marco Polo is the 13th century (1254-1324) Italian traveler and explorer
who was the first European to cross Asia and leave a record of his exploration.
The MarcoPolo Program is the Partnership that comprises the
Verizon Foundation, its Content Partners, Rollout Partners and trainers.
The Program's Content Partners develop and deliver – free to teachers –
high-quality, standards-based, commercial-free resources via the
Internet, and designed to be integrated into the K-12 curriculum.
MarcoPolo Certified Trainers are expert trainers who conduct
hundreds of on-site, face-to-face, train-the-trainer sessions annually.
Most of these trainers work on a state level through MarcoPolo’s Rollout
Partners. MarcoPolo Certified Trainers are certified by the Verizon
Foundation.
MarcoPolo Consortium comprises the Verizon Foundationand the
Content Partners: American Association for the Advancement of Science,
International Reading Association, John F. Kennedy Center for the
Performing Arts, The National Council of Teachers of English, The
National Council of Teachers of Mathematics, National Council on
Economic Education, National Endowment for the Humanities and National
Geographic Society.
MarcoPolo Content Partners are the education organizations that developand maintain the MarcoPolo Content Partner Web sites.
The MarcoPolo Partnership comprises the Verizon Foundaiton, all MarcoPolo Content Partners, and Rollout Partners.
The formal title of MarcoPolo training is MarcoPolo Professional Development
Program. This program is based on a train-the-trainer and end-user model.
MarcoPolo Search Engine locates resources across all MarcoPolo Partner
sites in a single search.
MarcoPolo Trainer Resource Center provides registered users
access to several resources necessary for successful Marcopolo training.

produced by the International Reading Association and The National Council of
Teachers of English.
Rusticello is an integrated professional development system
designed by the Verizon Foundation to automate and integrate all aspects
of the MarcoPolo Program's professional development training
activities. Rusticello improves reporting capabilities, simplifies data
entry and retrieval, and provides for long-term tracking and program
assessment. Rusticello is used by the Verizon Foundation, as well as
Rollout Partner and MarcoPolo Trainers.
Rusticello, the person, was Marco Polo's prison mate turned scribe when
the two were imprisoned together during a conflict between Venice and Genoa.
Marco Polo dictated his explorations to Rusticello, whose writings later became
an influential record of Marco Polo's exploration of China.
Science NetLinks is MarcoPolo's science Partner, produced by the
American Association for the Advancement of Science.
Teacher Training Kit or Training Kit serves as a guide
through the training, as well as the main resource to conduct Field
Trainings. An online Training Kit is available at the MarcoPolo Web
site.
